Women and Public Policy Intern

About

The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, a coalition of the nation's 40 preeminent national Latino organizations, was established in 1991 to advance and raise public awareness around the major policy issues affecting the Latino community and the nation as a whole.We are looking for an enthusiastic intern in our Washington, D.C. office to support the coalition’s leadership and policy work.

The NHLA Women and Public Policy intern will have the opportunity to learn about a wide-array of policy issues that impact Latinas in the United States. The individual will also have the chance to meet with professionals who employ multi-faceted strategies to advance the rights and interests of Latinas in the U.S. This internship will also provide an individual with the chance to sharpen his/her skills in data analysis, research, writing, event planning and meeting management.

Responsibilities

  • Research, edit and, occasionally draft blogs for website
  • Conduct research relevant to Latinas in politics and policy issues that impact Latinas
  • Assist with social media related to stories, events and issues that impact Latinas
  • Prepare talking points for meetings, media interviews and other venues
  • Track news that is relevant to Latinas and issues that impact Latinas, including political leaders and political issues
  • Assist with data collection and documentation efforts
  • Help with follow-up with meeting and event participants
  • Search for data, facts, statistics and information for articles and research projects
  • Prepare summaries of news articles and other relevant information
  • Assist with the coordination of events, including arranging mailings, preparing information packets and assisting with on-site logistics
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as maintaining contacts and files.
  • Attend NHLA meetings and events, as time permits.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student majoring or concentrating in Law, Government, Political

    Science, Public Policy, Gender or Women’s Studies, or a related area of study

  • Interest and track record in promoting gender equality and empowerment
    • Experience working in a professional environment
    • Solid writer, editor, and researcher
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and sound proofreader
    • Self-starter
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
    • Skilled at online research
    • Proficient with social media, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Google+, blogs and websites
  • Team player

Reports to NHLA Chair and NHLA’s Director of Gender Equity and Advocacy

Candidates are considered on a rolling basis. Interns are provided with a stipend and transportation benefits
