STATEMENT OF NHLA CHAIR ON RESIGNATION OF KATHERINE ARCHULETA

Commends outgoing OPM Director for her dedicated public service

 

Washington, D.C. – The Chair of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), Hector Sanchez, who also serves as Executive Director of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), issued the following statement in response to the resignation of Katherine Archuleta as Director of the Office of Personnel Management.  NHLA, a coalition of 39 of the nation’s preeminent Latino advocacy organizations, endorsed Archuleta’s nomination to the post in 2013 and has worked with her since her confirmation, mainly through the Hispanic Council on Federal Employment, to address the abysmally low level of Latino representation in the federal workforce. 

“I am sorry to see Katherine Archuleta step down under these circumstances.  Throughout her career, she has distinguished herself as a bridge-builder and effective leader.  Having worked with her directly on the Hispanic Council on Federal Employment, I saw first-hand her commitment and energy in taking on the vast, complicated federal personnel system to improve the recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion of Latinos in the federal workforce.  She deserves our gratitude for her dedicated public service at OPM and, before that, as a public school teacher, in local government, and at three federal departments over the course of two administrations, as well as her leadership in non-profit organizations,” said Hector Sanchez, NHLA Chair and Executive Director of LCLAA.
